There is brand new music from our Modified Man duo and it was just introduced to the world by Boiler Room last week. To support the premiere of new track “Thorns”, Modified Man went to the Boiler Room studio to record a three-hour live and DJ set.
Dave Koor and Adam Scrimshire took a box of records each, their Moog Little Phatty, Prophet 6 and Ableton Push along and set up for an extended journey into jazz, soul, electronica, soundtracks, house, disco, broken beat and their own productions.
Watch the middle hour, including the main part of their newly prepared, live performance of “Thorns”, “System Is Fatal” and “Modification 1″ here:
Alternatively you can listen to the full three-hour set here:
The 33rd “modification” in their journey writing tracks or “modifications” together and now renamed as “Thorns”, this piece is an exploration of electrical sounds, from which emerges an explosive, but short-lived climax.
On this occasion the Prophet 6 synthesizer played a massive part, melodically and in the ebbing and flowing wash of arpeggio rhythms controlled by Adam Scrimshire. Punctuated with deep explosions of bass courtesy of Dave Koor on the Moog Little Phatty, these distorted bass notes at first hide the waltz-time-programmed drum patterns that eventually emerge to solidify a structure and melody.
